PARO is a robot seal. Research has revealed that robot therapy has a similar effect on patients as animal therapy. About 2,700 PARO robot seals have been used in hospitals and care facilities around the world.
In this presentation, the purposes and functions of PARO will be explained, and some typical and some special cases will be introduced: recovery from depression; reduction of agitation; recovery from speech disorders; and the reduction of usage of medications in dementia care. Finally, why PARO has the potential to change moods and behaviors will be explained.
**Note** PARO will be at the Consulate-General of Japan’s booth in the Bldg. C Lobby on Saturday, Sept. 24, 10am-5pm, during BC Japan Week’s public festival day. Come and say Hello to PARO!
